Population status

Mourning Warbler
(Geothlypis philadelphia)

The Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) is the most reliable source of data for the Mourning Warbler, providing good coverage of about 50% of the Canadian breeding population. The population has decreased by about 50% since 1970. At the regional level, the decrease is consistent throughout most Bird Conservation Regions (BCRs) in Canada, with the exception of the Lower Great Lakes / St. Lawrence Plain BCR, which shows little change in population since about 1970 (BCRs for which there are reasonably reliable BBS trends are displayed below). The Atlas of the Breeding Birds of Ontario, which provides results for the portion of the population in Ontario, indicates little change in occurrence over the 20-year period spanned by the two Atlases.
