Background information

Canadian Lakes Loon Survey

The Canadian Lakes Loon Survey (CLLS) started in Ontario in 1981 and expanded throughout southern Canada in the 1990s. Volunteer participants select a lake and observe loons throughout the breeding season to obtain an estimate of the number of resident adult pairs and young.

Data presented on the Status of Birds in Canada were kindly provided by Bird Studies Canada.
