The 2016 State of North America’s Birds report provides a continental conservation status assessment of the 1,154 native bird species that breed in the continental U.S., Canada, and Mexico, as well as the oceanic birds that occur in the waters surrounding these three countries.
The report’s Watch List includes 432 species with high concern scores (>14), or with concern scores of 13 and steeply declining population trends. These species are at the greatest risk of extinction without significant conservation actions to reverse declines and reduce threats. There are 78 species on this list in Canada.
