Although a common and widespread bird of Canada’s boreal forest, this species remains little known. The Breeding Bird Survey shows little overall change in population since about 1970. With an estimated 99% of the global breeding population, Canada's responsibility for the Philadelphia Vireo is very high. This species has been identified as a priority for conservation and/or stewardship in one or more Bird Conservation Region Strategies in Canada.
As a bird of early successional forest on its breeding, migrating and wintering habitats (Moskoff and Robinson 1996), the Philadelphia Vireo is unlikely to face significant habitat shortages in the near future. Philadelphia Vireo have a very restricted wintering range in southern Central America that may become cause for concern, although at present problems are not apparent (Moskoff and Robinson 1996).
