The size of the Western population of Barrow’s Goldeneye is estimated at 250 000 individuals, while the Eastern population of Barrow’s Goldeneye is estimated at only 8 500 individuals. The Canadian portion of the Western population is primarily monitored through the Waterfowl Breeding Population Survey of the Central Interior Plateau of British Columbia, and the Eastern population is primarily monitored through the Eastern Population of Barrow’s Goldeneye Winter Survey. Both populations currently appear to be stable, however information for both populations is limited. Both populations are currently at an acceptable level relative to their national population goals. Detailed information on the population status of waterfowl species is available in the Population Status of Migratory Game Birds in Canada report (summarized version).
