Population status

Field Sparrow
(Spizella pusilla)

The Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) provides good coverage of the breeding population of the Field Sparrow, which, breeds only in the south-central and south-eastern parts of Canada. BBS results indicate a large decline in population since about 1970, with an overall loss of about 50% of the population. BBS results for North America also indicate a range-wide, continental decrease since the mid-1960s.
