In Canada, Ruffed Grouse are surveyed by both the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) and the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS). Both surveys indicate little overall change in this species' populations, relative to the early 1970s. BBS results for the Bird Conservation Regions (BCRs) that host the species and for which there are reasonably reliable results are displayed below. BCR results vary from large decreases in some of the western and northern BCRs, to little change elsewhere (see BBS table below). A provinicially/territorially managed game species, the Ruffed Grouse is at an acceptable level relative to its national population goal (see CBC Canada results below).
