Population status

Canada Warbler
(Cardellina canadensis)

The best source of information on the population status of Canada Warbler is the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS), although less than half of the species' breeding population is covered by the survey. BBS data indicate a fluctuating but continuing population decrease from 1970, with an overall loss of about 70% of the population during that period. The decrease has continued through the most recent decade though the magnitude lessened. The results of the Atlas of the Breeding Birds of Ontario, which covers about 50% of the Canada Warbler population, provided corroborating information during the Atlas period (ending in 2005) and indicate a small decrease in occurrence between the two Atlas periods.
