Population status

Common Yellowthroat
(Geothlypis trichas)

The Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) is the most reliable source of population status data for the Common Yellowthroat in Canada although less than half the species' range is covered by the survey. BBS results show a moderate decrease in the population since about 1970. Some degree of regional variability is both expected and observed for such a widespread species; population trends range from large increases (e.g., Northern Rockies Bird Conservation Region) to large decreases (e.g., Boreal Taiga Plains Bird Conservation Region), though there is no apparent geographic pattern.
