Population status

Hammond's Flycatcher
(Empidonax hammondii)

The Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) is the most reliable survey for Hammond's Flycatcher and indicates a moderate increase in the Canadian population relative to about 1970. However, the survey covers about 40% of this species' breeding range. BBS results for individual Bird Conservation Regions (BCRs) are mixed (results for BCRs with reasonably reliable trends are shown below). BBS data for North America indicate the continental population has shown little overall change since the mid-1960s. BBS data show the centre of abundance for Hammond’s Flycatcher lies in southeast British Columbia and adjacent Washington and Idaho.
