Population status

Lark Sparrow
(Chondestes grammacus)

Although the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) provides the best available information on long-term population trends of Lark Sparrows in Canada, it only covers about 40% of the breeding population. BBS results show a large increase in abundance in Canada since about 1970. However, this result has only moderate precision. In contrast, BBS results for North America, which mostly reflect the larger population in the United States, indicate that continental Lark Sparrow populations have shown a moderate decrease since about 1970.
