Population status

Pomarine Jaeger
(Stercorarius pomarinus)

The distribution of Pomarine Jaegers in Canada is poorly documented. Records of breeding birds are more common in the islands of the western Canadian Arctic than in the eastern Arctic (Wiley and Lee 2000, Johnston and Pepper 2009). They are never abundant and their habit of shifting breeding locations from year to year makes it difficult to monitor their populations. The current population status of Pomarine Jaegers in Canada and how it relates to that of about 1970 remains unknown.
