Population status

Sharp-tailed Grouse
(Tympanuchus phasianellus)

The Sharp-tailed Grouse is monitored in Canada by the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) and the Christmas Bird Count (CBC). BBS results, which cover almost 60% of this species' breeding population, suggest the population has shown little coverall change since about 1970. However, this result has low precision. The CBC suggests that the wintering population has also shown little overall change since about 1970.
