American Pipit
(Anthus rubescens)

A breeder of the extreme north, west and east, beyond the reach of most Breeding Bird Survey routes, this species is best monitored by the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) while populations are on their wintering grounds in the southern United States. Since some 80% of American Pipits breed in Canada, the continental CBC results are a good reflection of the Canadian population. CBC results indicate little overall change in the population since 1970. The American Pipit is within acceptable levels of its national population goal (see graph for North America below)
