This species is best monitored in Canada by the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS), which indicates that the current population is similar to that of the 1970s, both within Canada and throughout its North American range. While the northern portion of the Black-and-White Warbler's breeding population is not as well covered by the BBS, results suggest an increase in numbers in the Boreal Taiga Plains Bird Conservation Region (BCR) and a decrease in the Boreal Hardwood Transition BCR. Elsewhere, the population has increased or remained relatively stable. All BCRs for which there are reasonably reliable population trends are displayed below. The Black-and-White Warbler is is at an acceptable level relative to its national population goal (see Canada graph below).
