The Boreal Chickadee, resident year-round in Canada, is surveyed by both the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) and the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS), though neither provides good coverage of its range in the northern boreal forest. Both surveys suggest little overall change in the population relative to 1970. At the regional level, reliable results from the BBS are available for only three of the seven Bird Conservation Regions (BCRs) that host the species in Canada (displayed below). These indicate a relatively stable population in the Northern Rockies BCR, and declines in the eastern populations. The Boreal Chickadee is at an acceptable level relative to its national population goal (see Canada CBC graph below).
