Population status

California Quail
(Callipepla californica)

The California Quail is well covered by the Breeding Bird Survey, although the number of routes that report the species is low because of the species' small range in Canada. Data from those routes indicate a large increase in population since the early 1970s. Continental results also indicate an increase in population at the range-wide level, though not at the magnitude of the Canadian population. A national population goal has not been established for this introduced species.
