The Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) provides good coverage of the breeding population of the Common Raven. BBS results suggest that this species has shown a dramatic and continuing increase since 1970. At the regional level, all Bird Conservation Regions (BCRs) for which there are reasonably reliable BBS results (displayed below) show increasing trends for Common Ravens, with particularly dramatic increases in the Prairie Potholes and the Lower Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Plain BCRs. The Christmas Bird Count results for this resident species in Canada corroborate the large increase in numbers. Continental results from these two surveys indicate the increase is continent-wide. Considering the agreement between these two sources, the reliability of this assessment is considered high. The Common Raven is at an acceptable level relative to its national population goal (see BBS Canada graph below).
