The Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) provides the best available data for Orange-crowned Warbler, although it covers less than 30% of the Canadian breeding population of this northern species. BBS results suggest there has been little overall change in abundance of Orange-crowned Warbler relative to the early 1970s. Among the Bird Conservation Regions (BCRs) that host the species, BBS results vary from large decreases in the Canadian portions of the Northern Pacific Rainforest and Great Basin, to an increase in the Northern Rockies (results for BCRs with reasonably reliable trends are displayed below). The Orange-Crowned Warbler is at an acceptable level relative to its national population goal (see Canada graph below). Interestingly BBS results from throughout North America suggest an almost 40% decrease in abundance at the continental level.
