Sprague's Pipit
(Anthus spragueii)

Sprague's Pipit is best monitored in Canada by the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS), which indicates a large and continuing decrease in numbers since the early 1970s. BBS data from throughout North America also indicate a large decrease in the continental population. The national population goal for the Sprague's Pipit is taken from the Recovery Strategy (to achieve the population levels observed from 1980-1989 throughout its historic range in Canada; Environment Canada 2012); the species is currently below that goal (see BBS Canada graph below).
