The Rocky Mountain, Pacific Coast, and Interior populations of Trumpeter Swans are all increasing in size (Groves 2017). This species is primarily monitored through the North American Trumpeter Swan Survey, although for canadian breeders, detailed trends are only available for the Pacific and Rocky Mountain populations. The only formal survey conducted in Canada of the Interior Population was in 2015, in Riding Mountain National Park, Manitoba, where 97 were recorded, a dramatic increase from the 49 counted in 2010 (Groves 2017). The Ontario component of the Interior population is estimated at, at least, 2,000 individuals (CWS Waterfowl Committee 2017). Each Trumpeter Swan population has a national population goal; all three populations are at an acceptable level relative to their respective goals. Detailed information on the population status of waterfowl species is available in the Population Status of Migratory Game Birds in Canada report (summarized version).
