The Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) is the most reliable source of information on the population status of the Yellow-rumped Warbler, although it covers only the southern portion of the species' breeding population. BBS results suggest an increase of about 40% in the Canadian breeding population since 1970. Only four of the numerous Bird Conservation Regions (BCRs) that host the species in Canada have reasonably reliable data (displayed below); regional results range from little change in the Great Basin BCR to a large increase in abundance in the Lower Great Lakes / St. Lawrence Plains BCR. Currently, the Yellow-rumped Warbler is at an acceptable level relative to its national population goal (see BBS Canada graph below).
