Notice is hereby given that pursuant to the provisions of section 74 of the Species at Risk Act permit no. JNP-2013-15174 is issued.

Purpose:
Activity necessary or beneficial to the species

Description:
The mountain national parks caribou conservation project is acquiring shed woodland caribou antlers from the Calgary Zoo for use in public outreach, education and visitor experience activities. Raising awareness of threats to woodland caribou and management actions will assist in recovering the species.

Pre-Conditions:
a)All reasonable alternatives to the activity that would reduce the impact on the species have been considered and the best solution has been adopted: Antlers are naturally shed by caribou. Collection and possession of these shed antlers will have no impact on individual caribou or their habitat. b)All feasible measures will be taken to minimize the impact of the activity on the species or its critical habitat or the residences of its individuals: Antlers are naturally shed by caribou. Collection and possession of these shed antlers will have no impact on individual caribou or their habitat. c)The activity will not jeopardize the survival or recovery of the species: Antlers are naturally shed from caribou. Therefore collection and possession of these antlers does not have any population-level impact and will not jeopardize the survival and recovery of the species.
